It is finally done, the brass castings and all. The table is edge laminated 1 x 5īs and the legs and base are laminated 4 x 4īs. It weighs about 550 pounds.

The six drawers all have tops to keep them clean inside.

It's beautiful. I'll take a wild guess at 200 b.f. of bloodwood, or about $1,800 for the lumber alone (for those of us who don't own the mill:rolleyes:).

That thing looks like it could take a serious beating for 200 years and still ask for more! Is bloodwood in Peru like oak and walnut up here in the States?

I can't even imagine how much that weighs! Beautiful bench...just stunning.

That sure did turn out great. At 550 pounds that is an anchor. I am assuming bloodwood is so common of a wood that it pays to use an exotic like that. That would be a very very expensive workbench here in the states. That is too pretty to use as a workbench.

A very stunning bench. Almost a shame to use it as a work bench. Beautiful work.

Nice bench!!! I'll bet you can't wait to slop glue on it, drill some holes in it and use it to weld on.

I agree. I'd be afraid of putting a little nick or something in it. Absolutely stunning :)

Bench looks great. Weighs in just about as much as I do after grilling filets last evening.
Almost too nice to work on. Great job.

....and here I was wondering if I could justify making my bench top out of maple ply instead of MDF.

Great job, Jim. Smart way to advertise too. So, what will the dogs be made out of - yellow heart maybe? Like one of the other posters, I also wonder - will you have to pull a drawer out to poke them back up?

My wife loves bloodwood. Hm. I wonder if show her this pic...

First of all thanks everybody for all the nice comments.

The cost was really nothing as we cut up an old bloodwood that had been laying in the pasture for probably 50 years. The brass vice plates were the most expensive as the brass pipe we cut up and melted down cost about $150 .

The dogs have a vertical releif of about 1/16 of an inch so they come out very easily but fight tightly. Just so one doesnt put the bevel to the wrong side. Yes it is a left handed bench.

This is the bench that other benches dreamt of becoming when they grow up. Stunningly elegant! Heirloom quality. Should be featured in WW magazines. Godspeed.:D

I've often wondered about bloodwood for a workbench but never found an example of one. That is truly incredible!! What glue did you use?

Jim

How many are you making in your production run? :D

Thats a stunning bench, and merely from logs laying around

You're not planning to actually use that bench for woodworking are you??? WOW!! That's a beautiful piece of furniture and your custom brass castings came out looking great.

Oh my. That's the nicest workbench I've ever seen. I couldn't bring myself to use it, with the price of bloodwood up here.
That looks nicer than my dining room table :)

Man, how nice it must be to be able to say something like that! That's a statement you'll probably only hear once in a lifetime. :D

Jim, Stunning bench. How many hours did it take you and how many board feet do you estimate?

Zahid Naqvi

Firstly you need to post this in the neander side as well.

Secondly this is probably one of the most stunning workbenches I have ever seen. Bloodwood on top of the excellent construction is just supreme.

What's going on? First we have a rosewood and teak box to hold Dowelmax components, now a bench made of bloodwood with custom brass castings. What's next.

Beautiful bench!

Eric: I used regular white blue as the wood was kiln dried. I have never had a problem with white wood glue as long as the wood in properly dried.

Craig: No time for production runs of anything right now . We are overloaded as it is.

Don: I ended up sending it to the States and when there is time I will build another so I wont be using this one. It is on a ship now on its way to our warehouse in Houston.

Jim: It only took about 4 days as the glue dries slowly here but it did use close to 240 bf of rough KD lumber.

Thanks again to all for the comments.
