I picked up the Kreg K3 Master kit this week. Those of you that have been using this tool know how great it is. But for anyone that is sitting on the fence, get off it and pull the trigger. There is currently a $20 rebate on the master kit. All I can say is what a treat this thing is to use.

And the chip collection shroud that comes with the K3 kit is very effective.

Again, this is just one of those tools that once you get your hands you gain a immediate appreciation for what it can do.

Indeed.
I just saw the rebate advertised and looked up when I ordered mine.
Feb. 21st. Demin! ;(
I hook mine up to a 2 gal. Sears shop-vac with it's 1-1/4" hose and it collects every chip.

Wicked Cool jig - I can say it is one of the few things that works even better than advertised. It will also let you know how accurate your machines are set up too...;).... At no extra cost

I have the Kreg R3 Pocket Hole kit that sells for ~$40 and love it. I'm having trouble justifying the Master kit for my occasional work. Is there anything in there that give you greater capabilities or something similar, other than it is just easier and faster to use?

The K3 kit includes the stationary clamp base.

The stationary clamp is the cats meow. Set the board in it, flip the lever, drill, flip lever and lift board out. Quick and fool proof. And the chip collection eliminates a the mess that is otherwise present when using the 'portable' drill guide. I used both guides last evening and the portable guide left a little pile of chips and dust, not a lot mind you, but the stationary clamp's dust/chip collection is really effective.

I think that the Master Kit is great. For someone who has another pocket-hole jig, it would be hard to justify needing the Master kit, but for anyone who is in the market for a new set, or just another set, the Master kit is a well engineered set. And, as a side effect, you can always use the components separately without the base like you use the R3.

Just picked up the master set today at the woodworking show in Chantilly, VA. They were offering it at $10 off regular price, plus added in a right-angle clamp and other "stuff" (equating to $50), and a $20 rebate.

Now, I've got no more excuses...time to start building/fixing things around the house.

Hi Greg,

I also just got the K3 Master kit. Hoping you could do me a favor.

One thing I have noticed, is the following;

The support/distance block doesn't have a square nut nor a machine screw as listed in the manual, page 16. I was wondering if your kit came with that ?

I'm also interested if you could measure the width for the rail on the support block. I thought I could use a, left over, strip of Rockler T track, but it's 3/4" and the support block slot is just short of 3/4". Could file it bigger if necessary.

Thanks
Michael

Sorry to show this again but whenever we talk about the Kreg jig, I just have to show my Pocket Hole Cart. Everything is set up and ready to go at all times:D.

When you're getting ready to drive the screw, make sure you're holding the pieces such that they can't shift sideways at all when the screw tip makes contact with the other piece.

The included clamp helps in some situations, but not others. The Kreg Right Angle Clamp helps a lot with 90° joints.

Anyone know where I could purchase the 'update kit'. Updates the lesser kits to the Master kit. I could not find it in the Kreg catalog nor on their website. Are they no longer available?

What I have works wells but I would like the clamping ability and the larger drill guide block. Should have done it right the first time but it seemed spendy........then.

Thanks, Dar

Hi Michael - I bought mine a few weeks ago and mine had the same problem. I was able to find what I needed at the Lowe's though.

Hey,
I picked mine up at the show today also. Now I have a half dozen ways to do pocket holes. I picked up bits and pieces over the years but I think this new master kit will be my favorite. I got alot of stuff there today but I don't want to hijack the thread or have the pic police on me. But I do have a fairly large and heavy box that says Porter Cable on it.

Had a blast at the show, made three trips to the truck.

Hi,

Just wanted to say thanks to Greg Peterson for answering the questions I raised earlier.

I emailed KregTools and they came back with this:

---
The machine screw and the T-nut used to be shipped with every kit but being as though most people did not use it we stopped shipping it with the kit. I will send you out these parts at no charge and you should see them in the next couple of days.
Dan Fisher,Product Support Specialist
---

Great customer service I'd say.

Dar Lounsbury, if you are unable to find that support kit I'd e-mail KregTools for any info. Use the 'contact us' tab on their web page.

Thanks,
Michael
