Reading the other thread on woodworking magazines got me to thinking. Has anyone ever actually seen a plan for a workbench in Workbench magazine? I have had an on-again, off-again subscription to the publication, but find it peculiar that I have never seen that.

Just go to their website and do a search. You will find some.

My take on Workbench magazine in the last year over the last few is they really have gone DIY home improvment rather than traditional woodworking. I don't even get it anymore.

Like Chris, it hit me a few issues back that it wasn't very useful, a closer look seems to be ads for products in the guise of "articles".
My last subscription issue came a couple weeks ago, read through it, and it went straight to recycle. Didn't renew it.

I have to agree with the other posts. I have had a subscription to WorkBench for a number of years and I really enjoyed it,
but no more . I don't consider it a woodworking magazine anymore. It has pretty much turned into a home improvement magazine
and not much info is useful to me. I will just let the subscription run out :(.

That has been my feeling on it since I re-upped my subscription this year. They used to feature reasonably good projects, but the past couple of issues haven't been much to see.

I still find it ironic.

I also agree with everyone. A couple years ago I built some projects they had in the magazine. Lately, however, I have not seen any "woodworking" projects that I would consider making. Nor, have I read any useful "woodworking" articles lately in their publication.

I like the rest of you feel that Workbench is going down the same road that the Handy Magazine went. I was tired of reading about storage units for the garage, the kitchen, the basement, the garage, the stairs, the garage, and yes the basement stairs.
So, after getting my last issue I got on the telephone and called Customer Service and had the rest of my subscription transferred over to Shopnotes. It took all of 5 minutes to do this and I think I'll be a lot happier.

I did not know that they would do that. I'll be on the phone to CS first thing Monday morning.

I get enough DIY magazines. Workbench is not what it use to be.

{edit} I didn't wait. Katy took care of me in under 5 minutes. She did talk me into a renewal, though. 2 years for $28.00.

I was so disappointed with Workbench I cancelled after the second issue.

Woodsmith is my current favorite with no advertising.

It wasn't my intention to create a magazine bashing thread. Frankly, I have enjoyed most of the magazines that are out there. I subscribe to Shop Notes, Woodsmith, Popular Woodworking, Wood, Woodworkers Journal, and Fine Woodworking. I won't be renewing Workbench, and probably not Woodcraft.
