This piece of wood had true diversity, heartwood, sapwood, curl, spalting, bark inclusions, punk and curl, LOTS of curl.
The pictures should be better, but the gloss caused reflection and I'm really not properly set up.
Height: 6 3/4 inches
Diameter: 6 inches
Finish: VanAqua 480 polyurethane
As Always, All Questions, Comments and/or Critiques Welcome!

George - as I have come to expect from you - this is another beautiful piece! Amazing wood! You are right - it has it all! Love the form - flowing curve, small foot and a simple detail line just before the rim! Great HF - also love the high gloss finish! To me - this is an exceptional piece! Very well done!

Wow that is a gorgeous piece. I love the wood and how the "simple and elegant" form lets the wood stand out!

Thank You Everyone!
Philip:
I started oil sanding when I hit 220 and kept the surface lightly oiled through to 400.
Then I started with VanAqua 480 water based polyurethane, while the piece was still on the lathe. I have the advantage of SLOW rotation with my PM 3520, so I have it rotate while I apply a liberal amount of finish (if it were not turning, the amount I use would sag and run).
I sand between coats, first coat 320 and a little aggressive (NO OIL).
Second coat 400/320 depending on how much grain is raised.
Subsequent coats till it is thick enough, using finer grits in between.
The product I chose is a semi gloss, so after the last coat I sand with 800,1200,2000, then buff with what is basically a car compound (bought a half gallon at a garage sale for $1.00 - don't know what I'm going to use when I run out in 20 years or so).
BriWax 2 or three coats:D

Don, thanks, I'm considering this or Summer Sun, but I am also working on one more that if it turns out like I think it will will be my entry.

George you have perfect form and wood in this piece. I think the finish is a compliment to it also.
