Antistatic

We love the dry air in Colorado, but it means lots of static build up on my shop vac hose and on the unit itself. I was thinking about buying some antistatic spray that is made for clothing and see if it will help.

Has anyone tried that or another remedy?

Greetings fellow dweller of the sky! I know what you're talking about concerning static buildup. In my house, I have used laundry fabric softener to eliminate static. I dilute it with water, pour it into a spray bottle and spray it on the carpet. It only takes a little lest the carpet get sticky. Dryer sheets also work well. You can rub them on almost any surface giving you the blue flashes.

I would try spraying some fabric softener on your shop floor and in your vacuum hose. I'll bet that helps a lot.

I expect anti-static sprays would also help, but they're more expensive than fabric softener or dryer sheets. If you get the low-end fabric softener, it's pretty inexpensive and it works pretty well. Oh, and you can even wet a washcloth with it and throw it in the dryer. That was the first version of the dryer sheet.

When I moved to Colorado Springs from VA Beach I had the same problem… Not just a nuisance but it hurt. I replaced every one of my switch-plate covers with nylon screws. Now my woolen Berber carpet doesn’t take me to the floor in the winter like a TASER gun... ouch! Below are two links that may help including the nylon screws I bought:
