Well, i finally got this one done.... i took a 5 month hiatus because i just bought my first house and had to move the shop. i needed to do some woodworking because i have gone cold turkey for that period of time (i was going crazy...).

anyways, the box is laminated maple walnut cherry, finger jointed corners. the finish is tung oil. (approx. dimensions: 6"x11"x4")

this is really the first time i have made something this small because i usually stick to the larger stuff. it was fun and i learned alot doing it! let me know what you think!!!

Thanks
Nick

It looks great. I really like the contrasting wood and the rounded corners.

It's always a great feeling getting back in the shop.

It looks fantastic Nick! It doesn't look like it would be complicated to build (i.e., this might be something I'll try to copy!), but the execution is flawless.

Have you built a frame on the inside of the lid? Is that out of (hard) Maple? And what's between the Walnut and Cherry? Is that another wood? Did you use pure Tung Oil, or a tung oil finish?

Sorry for the rapid fire questions. Guess I got a little excited. I've been spending so much time working on my shop lately, that I haven't been able to work in my shop! Hopefully I'll get up soon and be able to produce something.

Thanks for the photos!

no frame on the top. i just constructed a solid box and then cut it open on the table saw. so yes it is maple.

to tell you the truth, im not sure of the wood between the cherry and walnut. it might be a birch....

I used minwax's tung oil finish on it.

That's really nice Nick! I also like the contrast in wood and the rounded corners... great job!

Question: how did you round the corners? And did you round the corners before or after you cut the lid on the TS?

Thanks for sharing...
Dave

thanks for all the compliments guys!

David: i rounded the corners with a round-over bit in the router. I did this before i cut the box open so that the bearing would have always have a surface to ride on. i did the top and bottom first then did the four corners.
