I've been seriously considering buying the G0593 with a spiral cutterhead but see most of the discussion about the G0490 X. Is there a major difference I'm missing? Both 8", both with about the same size bed, both with spiral cutterheads, and both about the same price.

Thanks

Terry

I think the biggest difference is that the G0490X has a parallelogram table and the G0593 has a dove tail. This may or may not be a big deal to you - most people set up their tables and never move them, so the dove tail may work fine for you. Also the G0490X has 3HP compared to 2 on the G0593. The G0490X also has a built in mobile base.

If you do choose to go with the G0490X for $1075, you might want to consider instead going with the G0490 for $795 then add the byrd shelix cutter head for $395 (for a total of $1190) - The G0490x has a spiral cutter head, but I believe all the cutters are aligned square to the path of the board, the shelix head has the inserts at a slight angle so they produce a better cut - at least that is what I have been told. I have been looking around to see if there are any other differences between the G0490 and the G0490X (besides the cutter head), I posted this question in another thread here, but have not seen any responses yet. I know you were asking about the differences between the G0490X and the G0593, but I figured I'd toss in a curve to your decision making....

Thanks for your remarks Robert. Looking closely I can see the differences Unfortunatly I saw the GO495X znd it looks like it may be what I'm looking for. I just need to see if the price is for the Grizzly or Byrd cutter head.
