A little more work on the pencil cabinet.

In the first picture you can see where I used 3/4" melamine to make the spacing for the side panels in picture #2. These panels will set about 12 1/4" apart and be set in the top and bottom with tenons. The 3rd picture shows me roughing the tenons out. I finished them up using chisels at the workbench.

Pic #4 shows the finished side panels with the tenons. You'll note a couple of maple inlays in the sides. My first goof I tried to cut the tenons on the table saw using a square tooth blade like you would use for box joints. Even with a backer board it tore out something terrible.

Picture #5, while not very good shows how I intend to trap the pencils in the trays. Also note the 1/8" brass rod showing out the side. These rods, there will be one at each end of the trays, will support the tray and allow it to slide out making the pencils accessable. Each tray will have 3 support pins on each side to keep the tray from falling out.

You can find info about making the trays here http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=78300

Also the start of the project is here http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=78037
