I have a guy that's interested in having me engrave the backs of some Zunes.

If you go to the website that people use to buy them engraved (canned graphics, custom text) it does not look like cermark, it's more like grayscale.

I'm wondering if they are made with a coating similar to Alumamark.

Anyone have any experience doing a Zune? I hate being a guinea pig (or making my customer one).

I stumbled across a website recently where someone was engraving them in Milpitas Ca. On one of his pages he mentioned they were like removing anodize off aluminum. I just cannot remember the website, but I found the link through this site.

Looks like a YaG did it to me. Definitely not a Cermark job. I'm wondering it the photo was enhanced a little.

I can verify that you can engrave the back clip on a Sandisk Sansa, I just did mine. Not much room.

The customer will get back to me after he gets it (is ordering it) and I offered him a discount to be the guinea pig. I'll try it, then if no image appears, will apply cermark without moving it and try that. The back is supposed to be aluminum.

I just got a Zune. I have not engraved it yet but it looks like an anodizing of some kind. It looks like it would engrave. I dont think that cermark would wash off to well as it has a texture to it. I will be using mine as a guinea pig within the next day or two. will post a pic.

I just got a request for marking on a Zune today. Any updates from those of you who have done them recently? How are you charging them? And how about power settings?

Joe,

Hard to tell from their website and google searches don't say the type of laser they use.

My educated guess, it's either painted plastic (turns a dark color) or it's an alumamark like metal casing.

If you end up the guinea pig, I say 100%S, 30%P @600DPI. (for your machine/wattage specifically)

Just so you know, I engraved my Zune today. It is actually the best metal to engrave. Much better than iPods or iPhones. It seems as if they chose it because it is good for engraving (because of Zune Originals)...

Not the best design, I didnt have to full image that I wanted, so I just did something small...

I dont remember the settings :\...but it turned out great!

Here's my pics:

Zac,

Interested in finding out what settings you used and what machine(brand & power) you have.

Thx.

Zac,

Interested in finding out what settings you used and what machine(brand & power) you have.

Thx.

It was an Epilog 120 Watt. It was at the Epilog place. He said it was acting like a 25 Watt laser though, which is what confuses me. I will email him asking...

Love to know the setting for a 25W. I'll be doing my son's Zune soon.

The Zune I etched onto was a clear anodized Al. If any are interested you may view it on my website.

As for power, start out low. Repetitive runs will not effect the the image as long as it is not moved on your bed. Step up the power as needed.

Don't be afraid to jump in. The water is only cold for a second.
