Anyone have a good source for 4" inch locking castors (wheels) I need them for a workbench. Thanks!

I bought some for a very heavy steel workbench a few years back from Graingers. I got the hard plastic wheels with swivel and locks. Hard plastic (phenolic) was the cheapest if I remember correctly. They were not cheap ($100+ total for four), but they work great and for me I think worth it. Off the top of my head I think they were made by Wagner.

Try this link: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/productIndex.shtml?search_type=keyword&QueryString=wagner+caster+locking
The ones I have are just like this: http://www.grainger.com/images/products/enlarged/XL-3A855.JPG

These guys have any kind of caster you could want - http://www.mcmaster.com/
Their website navigation doesn't allow a link directly into the catalog - click on Casters in the Material Handling section...

For my money, you cannot beat Caster City. Casters are not something they do, casters are who they are. Their staff is extremely knowlegable and helpful; their selection is unbeatable. I am not on their payroll, I just really appreciate quality products and people when I come across them.

Good luck.

I use the ones from Lee Valley...grey rubber wheels and double locking. I have them on my drum sander stand and my mobile kitchen island...had them on my previous router table and sold them with it and also have a set ready for a future tool cabinet project.

I've used the one's Jim mentions from Lee Valley. They're pretty good.

Colson prolly has something but for a work bench I'd think you'd want a caster that transfers the load to a fixed pas and off the wheel Like a Zambus.

Great Lakes Caster.

+1

Unbeatable casters, great prices. This is ALL they do, that motivates them to make and sell the best casters you can buy.

These Zambus casters look very interesting. Looks like just the thing for my workbench. Do you have to stoop to lower the levelers and raise them? They don't look like they are foot activated.

I have an HTC2000 under my 14" bandsaw and there's too much back and forth to manuever it into position. Put my 17" drill press on a homemade mobile base with 3" swivel casters from Hartville (which I highly recommend).

I'm pretty partial to the Hartville Tool casters:

Plus they have a discount for that other Woodworking Forum...

...these from Grizzly. I searched high and low and this was the best deal I found. They are $9.50 a piece with brake and $8.50 without the brake. The picture does not show the brake, but it does have the double locking brake.

Also, they have a 3" version that is only $6.50 a piece and $4.50 without a brake. This has been my favorite caster. It holds plenty of weight, it's rolls great, and it double locks.

Shipping is around $10, but if you order all your casters at one time, the shipping doesn't go up much. I ordered like 12 casters at one time, so the shipping came out less than the tax if I had bought at a retail store.

I agree! I put these on my Uni and have worked great for over a year now. Also, you probably already know, you should get the double locking type:

I prefer the Woodcraft version. Here's (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=75281) a comparison I made between Woodcraft and Hartville and why I chose Woodcraft.

I've found these double-locking polyurethane casters to work very well for heavy tasks in my shop. Rubber wheels will develop flat spots. Hard plastic or steel wheels come to an abrupt stop when they hit even very small debris on the floor.

I've used many of these casters and found Woodcraft's prices to be better than most. The castercity.com site mentioned earlier has a great selection, but seem to be pretty pricy. The Great Lakes Caster site looks like it has excellent prices.

Was in Northern Tool the other day and they had a couple of different options in stock for around $20 or less each.

They also have them online:
