choosing right wood for a project

Hi, would you please give me suggestion:confused: which wood to use for flatware organizers. My other half asking to make a few for all our forks, knifes and so.

Sounds like a good scrapwood project. Use whatever you can from the discard pile.

Like was said...whatever cutoffs you may have. If you have a choice I would use a close grained wood like maple, birch, cherry, etc. Makes keeping it clean easier, especially if you don't finish it. Something like oak would take a lot of finish or you'd need to use grain filler to make it slick.

I agree with Richard...closed grained woods are a good choice for this...maple, cherry, alder, etc.

The underlining was a piece of prefinished plywood left over from the cabinets. I think it was 1/4"
