I would really like to see some kid storage ideas for toys and also any play kitchens people might have made. My daughter is 13 months old and I need to get started on her play kitchen.

You guys have any cool kid pieces you have made?

Mike, I posted pictures of some storage units I built for the kid's toyroom here:

I have created a small kitchen, some toy boxes (very large), and a large (6 feet(tall) x 4 feet x 4 feet) American Girl doll house. I will post pictures if someone can tell me how. Do I just use the Manage Attachments at the bottom?

I don't have pictures yet. I will take them this weekend and post them. ... or if you PM me with your email, I will send them to you. I have some handwritten plans that I can scan and send, too.

I made the kitchen plans and doll-house plans myself. The kitchen includes a stove, oven, sink and refrigerator. It was my first project.

Scott, where did you find the actual bins?

Ikea, they also sell brackets to hang the bins so you wouldn't have to make a bazillion dados.

Here's a storage rack I made for my grandkids. My daughter picked up the bins at a Dollar store.http://home.earthlink.net/~us71na/toyshelf.jpg

Here is a model that I built for one of my grandchildren. The bins are from IKEA and were the most expensive part of the project. The rest is 3/4 ply finished with BLO and wax. I added an extra strip above the bins to help prevent spilling when they are pulled out.

If you have a Pottery Barn around you go there and look at their play kitchens they are all wood and don't look too difficult to make yourself. You would not want to pay the prices they ask, but it would give you a good idea of where to start for your own creation.

Hi Mike,
This is not an elaborate project but my daughter Anna thinks it is great. I suppose it is just as much a play table as it is a workbench. You might want to leave the vise off until your daughter is a bit older.

I can see something like this as a good place to play with building blocks or to do art projects / coloring books etc. You could modify the design to have a 3-sided rail around the top to keep toys from falling in the floor - unless of course she throws them across the room :p:o. Then you're on your own pal.
