I'm making a small three-drawer case, walnut sides with plywood web-frames for drawer supports-dadoed into sides of case. I'll have a walnut face frame and plywood back, but not sure how to do the top for movement.
Can I use a pc of plywood, then fasten a walnut top to the plywood from underneath with screws in enlarged screw holes (for movement)? Or does someone have a better suggestion?

Rick,

Consider using these small fasteners, which fit into grooves routed into the inside of the carcase. (This is a small table, shown upside down.)

I would consider those if I had stretchers all around, but as there are really only two sturdy sides I don't think they will work as well. The ply back is rabbeted into the sides but is only about 3/16", and the front is just a face frame pc at the top. That is why I thought about using plywood for a sub-top, then putting the hardwood on top of that.

Rick, you only need two sides for a small cabinet.

OK thanks Bert. Maybe I'll go that route.
