Here's how I crammed 10,000 lbs of tools into a 5000 lb shop. A few of you have asked me how my shop is set up. Here's my cram fest. This is about the cleanest it gets too.:D

Don't turn around too fast in there! I crammed the contents of a 14 X 36 shop into 1/2 of our new home's garage (also 12x20). If I don't skin my elbows on something, it's been a good day in the shop. Is this your shop's permanent home or are you going to expand in the future?

I just built this shop the beginning of last year:confused: It wasn't supposed to have this many tools.;) It just ended up like this.

Wow. That's some serious Systainer action going on there! I guess that stackability does save space.

That is a very well organized shop for as much equipment as it contains.. May I suggest one thing? Wear a hard hat. Or at the very least, make sure those clamps hanging from the collar tie are tight!

you got more room in your 12 by 20 than I do in my 12 by 20.

Pretty tough to have many tool gloats without adding on:). Gotta like a shop with 2 Incra fences and a miter guage.

Thanks Leigh and everyone else, I'm even on incras website in their gallery. They make some fantastic tools.

Mightly nice looking shop you have there Bill. Things got sooooo tight in there last week that an insanely georgoeus humidor just popped out and landed all the way over at your bil's house. :)

Nice looking Fesstack also.

It may not be the biggest shop, but it sure has all the tools one would ever need.

Like others have said, one more piece of equipment and it's time for another story...

If you add one more systainer, you will probably need a step ladder to reach the top. Looks cleaner than my shop and it even has more stuff in it.

Thanks again everyone. This is the cleanest its been in 6 months. I just spent the day cleaning it. I figured I better post it now or it'll be another 6 months before I clean it this good again.:eek:I think I win the debate on usage of space this time anyway. I'm not done yet either. I still have more shelves to build. I'd like to be the next Henry Studly some day of larger tools.:D

Bill, I noticed the plywood flooring, and am curious as to your setup underneath, as I am in the planning stages of my 12 x 20 shop, and am wobbling between a concrete slab or wooden floor. It is a turning dedicated shop, with zero access for concrete delivery or digging equipment,so all is to be done by hand(sigh). The site is an old asphalt slab that has not moved in the 15 years that I have been here, that would be dug out for the slab, but probably left in place for the stringers and flooring option. Any ideas?

Hi Ron, Here's a shot of the floor before sheeting. There's 20 concrete columns sunk about 1-1/2 feet in the ground. I also rented a compactor and compacted the ground inside the holes before I poured the columns. I also used earthquake straps and "J" bolts in the columns. In addition, I glued the plywood floors with liquid nails. About a year later now and no settleing as of yet.

Thanks Bill, now I have options that I can visualize. Because of frost heave, would have to go down deeper for the sonotubes, but Now I have an option to a by-hand slab, which is gunna be really work intensive.

I see you have a tool sharp. How do you like it? I've thought about buying one.

Very nice shop. I don't know what it is about checking out other folks work area. Looks like a very laid back, cozy work area. Sometime you think, the more area you have the more junk you collect!!! Just this past week, I bought a 20x30 metal building and had it installed on an existing slab. I just started putting the electrical in it last night. Can't wait to put up some photos. I'm even more exited trying to figure out how the layout is going to be. I'm sure I'll be asking you guys many questions. Again, very nice shop OP!!!

I like the clamp idea, its a great way to use space we usually don't think of. Just don't forget what Sir Issac Newton found out under the apple tree.....I got a feeling those clamps are a little heavier than an apple.:p:p
