I'm looking for a source that I can buy Curly Maple from. Either local or pay shipping.

I live about 30 miles north of Little Rock, AR. Zip 72176.

How much do you need and do you want soft or hard curly maple? Depending on the quantity needed there are different places I would recommend.

Hard. The quantity is 14 to 16 board feet.

Can't help with the Maple, but what is it you're making? Since we're practically neighbors and all. :D (I used to drive right past you when I worked in Bebee.)

A dining room table.

Cherry for a border around the table top with curly maple in the center. It will look like a picture frame with the curly maple being the "picture" and the cherry as the "frame." I'm going to make my own shop sawn veneer out of the curly maple and glue it to either MDF or ply for the table top. The curly maple for the table top will be book matched and the cherry border will be hardwood rather than veneer. As for the aprons and legs, I'm going with curly maple for the aprons and cherry for the legs.

Should be fun. That is, if I can find some curly maple :D

Since you're a Little Rock native, what are some suppliers of hardwood in a 75 mile radius to you and I?

I am a Little Rock native, but I'm not a real active woodworker...yet. I got onto this site because I have 150 to 200 bf of Bradford Pear sawmilled out of a 35 year old tree we felled out of our yard. Makes me wonder how wide you can resaw though. Most all of the wood was milled to 4/4 in the rough and my projects are probably going to be of 1/2" thick or less. Hate to turn all that into planer chips if I don't have to. :D

Just a suggestion, since you indicated that you were going to use CM veneer, why not just shop for it directly. The Veneer Supplies.com (http://www.veneersupplies.com/)site has a great selection of maple veneer lots that are sequential sheets for matching. You can call Joe and he will help you out.

Try Wall Lumber in NC they will have it and have UPS packages about the BF you want. www.walllumber.com (http://www.walllumber.com) They are good to deal with I've received lumber from them UPS.

Check out CurlyMaple.com. They have some pretty impressive stock. This link goes to their private stock selection. They have a couple other tiers of quality also.

Have you tried Les Steen, Acadia or Hogan? John Sexton? Vic Hicks? All in Arkasnas. Beyond that PM me and I might be able to help further.

Reading this post made me chuckle because my neighbor and I just today visited a local sawmill that we like to buy from on occasion. Its run by a retired tug boat captain so we "shot the breeze" a little, then looked at some of his old hand tools and then looked at his inventory. Proped up against the wall was about a dozen 4"by 3-4 feet long peices of curly and figured maple. My neigbour likes to make small boxes so was interested in the maple. He said" how much". Oh, the old guy said, give me 20 bucks. Probably less than $1 per bf. I was interested in a sling(375 bf of birch) which was also $1 per bf. But I had already spent my money on $1500 worth of cedar shakes down the road.

When I first got interested in ww about 15 years ago I was going to my first wood show. As I walked in I overheard two guys talking. One said, "I've got all the tools, I just can't afford the wood"

How true, sometimes.
