Pegboard stand off distance?

Can anyone here tell me the amound of stand off space that is required behind a sheet of pegboard in order for the hooks to be inserted and removed properly?

3/4 of an inch will do it for most hooks and accesories

I agree with william, but it also depends on the brand\style hooks that you are using also.

You could try 1/2" ... lay a piece on a flat surfac and see.

I use 1x2's usually, and recently 2x2s I had laying around.

I think 3/8" is the minimum that I have used. I did a little trial and error to find it (which was before I learned about SMC). To decide on the distance, I made a sandwich with a plywood backing, spacers on either side, and a piece of pegboard. I ran the spacers through the planer to thin them until the pegs hit the backing when I put them into the holes.

I just did an entire wall using undersized 1/2" plywood cut in strips as standoff material. This was using large 1/4" pegboard hardware and locks. No problem at all.
