when buffing your pens with tripoli and white diamond out do you do it before or after assembly?

I do it before assembly. Probably not an issue with durable platings like titanium or chrome, but I buffed the gold plating off a slimline once, and just got in the habit of not machine buffing the assembled pen.

I do it before I assemble.

Before assembly, but assuming durable platings, I wouldn't hesitate to do a little touch up with pen assembled.
