I was lucky enough to purchase at an auction a Powermatic 20" thickness planner for $178 drive out price. One problem was I thought it only weighed 1200 #'s and it really weighs 2200 #'s. Next time I'll borrow a 3/4 ton pu.
The only thing broken I have found so far is that on one side the table raising gears have some teeth missing. Powermatic wants over $500 for these two gears. Has anyone had any luck welding or brazing onto the gears and then filing the shape of the teeth back it? These gears are hand operated so they really only have to be close to original shape (I think). Or does anyone have a Powermatic they are parting out that I can purchase these gears from?
It has the blade grinding attachment that mounts on the machine, but the knife jointer and grinder were taken to the scrap metal yard the week before the auction. Has anyone made these two attachments and if so could they please send me some drawings of what they did.
Thanks,
Lewis
