This is a lidded box/vessel from piece of cherry burl that was given to me by Pete Jordan (Thanks again Pete!). The whole thing is about 7" tall x 3.5", including the finial which is rosewood. This piece of burl is IMHO the prettiest piece of wood I've ever turned. And it smelled like my granddad's cherry pipe tobacco that I remember as a kid. It's finished with semi-gloss lacquer.

Wow! That is some beautiful wood, and your form really shows it off. The grain is amazing, and that inclusion is really neat. And it's all topped off with an amazing finial! Great job!

Great piece Curt !! I really like that you made a box instead of a HF. Great form and a pretty darn nice finial to boot !

I love it, that's a beauty Curt! I agree I really like this as a box rather than a HF.

A classic sweep on this box and a beautiful finial to top it off,
matched grain as well - very nice.

Was this turned green?

What method did you use to attach the finial?

Ditto what Keith said. Beautiful is good, but beautiful and functional are better!!

That's some gorgeous figure in the cherry and you did a nice job of the curve on the box. The rosewood accents it well. Great job.
