I am wondering if anyone here has had any experience with this jointer.

It is a 6" model with a cabinet base, 1 HP motor and a 3 blade head for $549.00.
It also has a bed length of 56", which is longer than most 6 " jointers.

I am searching for my first jointer and would love to know what people think of this one.

For comparison I have had this one for several years, its a nice machine that is dead accurate, I paid about $550 US. Hard to tell from the pictures what your getting but the basic stats all seem right for a 6".

Thanks Peter;

That one does seem nice but it is $799 versus $549, which for me is a big difference.

You could most likely buy the same jointer under a better known name. It looks to be the same machine as the Sunhill, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's also the same as the Jet long bed, just with different handles.

Shawn, if you check out this site http://www.toolseeker.com/WdWkMac/Jointer.htm you’ll see that there are several 6” jointers in the same price range. I’m not saying that there is anything wrong with the Pioneer but if something fails a few years down the road the better known brands will likely still be around with replacement parts.

Great link Bruce;

Thanks, I will make good use of that, and that's a good point about support down the road, I will keep it in mind.

Shawn,

I looked at this jointer last summer and thought it was good looking until I saw a Grizzly G0586 8" up close. The Grizzly is twice the machine for just a little more money ($695 - but grizzly had it on sale for a while $595. They might do it again). There have been many many times since I bought mine that I was happy to buy an 8" instead of a 6". But of course there have been a few times that I wished I had a 10". My advice is save the money and buy any 8", and give the grizzly a serious look!
