This is from some wood I got on ebay, the seller called it spalted swamp maple, I thought it was pretty cool for the $$ :)

Turned this up late last night, I used CA to seal some of the spalt lines (and still have CA on my fingers, I read the tutorial on that this morning...).
Finish is 400 grit sand with friction polish.

What do you think?

thanks, I'm just starting with the lathe and have found many small projects around the house call for something simple off the lathe. Now, if I could only get the skew to work well...

I get some of my wood from green waste piles and some of it from ebay, this one was in a pack of 10 pen blanks like it, I paid $15 after shipping :)

very good work. As for the CA on the fingers, it is an occupational hazard. It takes anwhere from two to eight hours to get it all off. Or you can soak, (disolve) it in acetone. :)
