View Full Version : Another phenolic question

In some woodworking supply magazine I saw advertised a phenolic "collar" that goes on the spindle of a spindle sander underneath the actual sanding drum. Now, I can't find that product again. If I correctly read the advertisement you would use this "collar", or whatever the proper term for it is, as a guide for pattern jig. You put the appropriate sized collar on the spindle, then the drum goes on top of that.

In other words, the pattern with the stock that you're working attached to it, rides against the phonelic collar so that the sanding spindle will duplicate the shape of the pattern.

My spindle sander has 6 diffferent size drums. I would want one of these collars for each size drum.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about or have suggestions?

Another thing that I wondered about when I saw this product is this: does the collar "free wheel" underneath the sanding drum on the spindle sander? It would seem to me that if it doesn't, it might burn either the pattern or the phonelic.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Kind Regards,
