This laminated turning, I called 'The White House', because of the shape of the lid. It was made from red cedar and white beech, two local timbers with very similar characteristics. This one was the second 'open' laminated project. Unfortunately, the first one was snapped up before I got a photo. This one measures 350mm high and 250mm diameter.

"Beautiful" is the best I can come up with.

Although segmented is not my thing, that is an impresive piece. The artistry and workmanship are outstanding. :)

Very nice work Jim! Great design! I like the contrasting colors, the form and the size of the piece! I think 'The White House' is a very good name for it! Great piece - looking forward to seeing more!

Jim, very nice work. Do you have Bill Smith's book? It's too bad that you are so far away; Bill, Curt Theobald, and I are conducting the first ever "Segmented Woodturning" symposium this year in November.

G'day Malcolm,
No, I don't have Bill Smiths' book. Almost all of my work comes from trial and error, mostly error. My wife and I are planning a tour of Canada and north east U.S.A. in August and September this year. We go from Vancouver to Toronto and down as far as New York then home. Pity it wasn't in November.
