Here's a new platter which I made to test out the new heavy-duty round nose scraper I got as a birthday present.

It's board walnut that my grandfather gave to me. Alot was rotten, but the pieces I were able to salvage are really nice wood. Lots of heart/sap wood contrast.

7 1/2" x 3/4". Sanded to 600, EEE Paste, and Carnuba.

Your critiques and comments are welcome and appreciated, as always. Thanks.

The understated simplicity really focus,s the eye on the beauty of the walnut.

Ben,
Not sure how you got something that nice out of a board. Are you hiding some big screw holes on the bottom?:) I have lots of 1" walnut and cherry boards, but I've not been able to get anything that looks that good out of them.

BTW I've been wondering, what is EEE paste?

Ben,

I like it.

Ironically I have been thinking of trying to turn a platter. I was thinking of gluing two 3/4" boards together so that I could get more thickness but obviously you have proved that you can get on out of just a 3/4" piece.

The only negative thing I have to say is that your background in your picture does not highlight your piece IMO. But on the other hand, I suck at photography so who am I to talk. :)

Thanks!

EEE is a paste with Tripoli abrasive (the same stuff that's on the 1st beall wheel). It works well for me for things that are going to be used.

What colour would you suggest for the background?

Great looking platter. I love the idea of finding old wood that has already darkened down. Well Done!!http://www.sawmillcreek.org/images/icons/icon10.gif

Very nice Ben. Beautiful wood and you did a great job on the shape. Suggest you photo it on a light gray background so your piece will jump out at you........Ron
