There is a local guy selling a dust collector for 150$. Sounds like the grizzly G1028Z, he told me on the web site it says 1.5 hp but, he says his has a 2 hp motor(the only discrepancy) and two 4 in" inlets. He said it was about 8 years old. Is it some other model. What would you offer for it(if its in good shape?)

If it's got a 2hp motor, it's probably the 1029Z, which is a highly rated and recommended single-stage DC. It ranked very high in a recent magazine article.

150 bones for a 1.5 - 2.0 HP DC is a decent price. I would guess that it is a model that is not made anymore.

I just bought a 3 year old Delta 50-850 with a bunch of attachements for 180 if that is any help. Sounds like a good deal to me.

I'd start by offering something in the neighborhood of $100 and go from there. An 8 year old dust collector could be considered a little closer to very used than just used.

Did he tell you it was a Grizzly?

The reason I ask is because the HF DC has a 2hp motor( according to HF :) ) and has 2 - 4" inlets.

I'd say $150 is more than a fair price, I'd jump on it. That's about half retail.

just for reference, I just bought a Jet 1100 (1.5hp I think, two 4" ports or one 6" if you take the splitter piece off) that was a few years old. I got it off of Craigslist for $150.. he was asking $250. Now I have the money to get a canister filter for it.

Remember to include shipping and taxes if you're comparing to buying new. offer him 100 and see if he comes down any. If he doesn't, no harm done.

And it sells for just $150 new!

Any reason he didn't give you the model and manufacturer?

He did say it was a grizzly, and judging by the other stuff he was selling, I believe him. He had a fancy table saw(tilting 3hp craftsman), and a jet planer/moulder for sale as well, way out of my price range though.

Kyle, it is likely a G1029. I had one for a while and it is a workhorse to be sure. If it is the one I am thinking of it has an inlet that is somewhere between 5" and 4" and you will need some type of way to adapt it to 4" pipe. I used one of those thick rubber plumbing collars / reducers and it worked great. BTW: I sold mine recently for $125.00 IIRC.
