I found a guy locally who is unloading all of his tools/equipment and lumber.

He has about 168LF of 5/4x4. he was telling me that he wanted to sell it for about 75% of retail. so i was thinking roughly in the $4-4.50 /BF range would be a good price. he called me back today saying that he wanted $5.00 /LF!!!!!!!!!

I check a few sources on the internet and what i found was that between $5.50-5.75 is retail. but can anyone confirm that i am not being the ignorant one here.... i certianly am not going to pay $15/BF....

No I think you are right that is a bit high I would expect to pay the $5 for a bf and even that would be a little high for my area.

Hi Nick, my supplier charges $8.80 Canadian for 5/4 cherry.

That would be $3.66 per linear foot for 5/4 X4 cherry.

Regards, Rod.

Well, 5/4 FAS cherry in our area is going for that $7.50/board foot range.

The stock that guy has is not FAS, though. FAS has a minimum width of 6", so his stock is undersize. That will definitely cut the price.

My guess is he doesn't understand the difference between a linear foot and a board foot, and maybe he saw the board foot price somewhere. That is way too high a price.

Yeah, he's a little bit on the high side.

Funny, I was just comparing Jaeger Lumber in Madison, NJ to PALumber last night.

5/4x8" Cherry - $8.99 per LF from Jaeger
8/4x8" Cherry - $6.25 per BF from Mike Morgan

Waiting patiently for Mike's shipping calculator...........

He's high. $4.60 - $5.10/BF for 4/4 to 6/4. $5/LF is Rockler or Woodcraft prices and they have free shipping right now but I wouldn't pay it.

Nick

he's pretty much out to lunch if he wants to sell it for that price by the linear ft.

Here is a link to a supplier about a mile from me,and he's a small operation. You can see his prices for Cherry on the sheet, and use them as a reference point.

Someday, I should actually go check this guy out. ;)
