I finally got to spend a little time in the shop this weekend. I started this bowl so long ago I can't even tell you when and wouldn't admit it if I did. I wanted to try this shape, since I got the idea I have seen many since.
Anyway, it is Mesquite and is 13 1/2" x 5 1/4". I won't be doing anymore like this soon but it was an "experience".
Please feel free to comment/critique. I know the pics aren't very good so we'll go ahead and get that out of the way.

I keep hearing about this woodturning vortex, now I've actually seen it!!

I like the shape a lot. And the mesquite is very pretty.

The piece is a beauty Kevin. Love the form and of course the mesquite.

Kevin,

I like it. The wide rim really shows off the wood. The drooping edges of the rim add a lot of visual interest and make you want to peer inside.

It would make a great vase for a fresh flower arrangement. (Not that I know anything about flowers or such things.)

Thanks guy, makes me feel better about spending the time I did on it.
Or maybe the people that think it's a trainwreck just aren't commenting. ;)

Kevin if that's a trainwreck, I'ld like to have a shelf full of them. Nice Job.

Kevin it looks great. The swept out rim really makes the tight curl stand out. Great job.

Is that the one we were looking at after the get together Kevin? I think it looks really good. It would be great on a shelf that was close to or a little above eye level I think so the rim detail is prominent.

Nice work Kevin! Definately a unique shape but it really shows off the wood beautifully! Great grain patterns, color and finish! I agree with some of the others - this should be out on display somewhere prominent. Very nice work!

Looks like a train wreck and you're a lousy photographer. Just kidding of course. Both the photography and the piece are great. After all the other positive comments, I can't think of anything original to say. I love it!

Thanks again everyone.

Brett, this is one that we looked at. I think at that time I thought it was dry, but yeah, it has occupied a chuck since then. That kid of mine is making it hard to get anything done... lol.

Just thought I'd mention..

I showed the LOML your pictures and she loved the piece. She particularly liked the lip.
