Here are pictures of some of my recent work which all have lacquer finish. The natural edge cedar #1061) is 11.5 in. wide X 6 in. high, cedar bowl (#1062) 9 in. wide X 3 in. high, red bud bowl (#1060) 12 in. wide X 4.5 in. high, and the red bud natural edge (#1056) is 11.5 in wide X 5.5 in. high. Your critiques and comments are valuable to me.

Glenn those are some beauties. I really like the two bowls. Form and finish are excellent. What kind of wood are they?

Really nice work Glenn! Love the cedar bowl - form and color! That had to smell good while turning! Also like the red bud bowl - great grain and color! The red bud natural edge also stands out - again because of the rich color! Nice work - especially on the cedar - it's so soft yet you managed to create some really nice pieces!

All are great. But where on earth did you find a piece of redbud big enough to make a bowl 12 inches wide? How big was the blank? Any idea the diameter of the tree?

Thanks for your kind words Scott. This red bud tree came from Ashburn, GA as a result of a hurricane. Parts of the tree were given to me by a member of our turning club. This is the largest red bud tree I have ever seen or heard of. Both of the bowls you see came from the same tree, the bowl with the lip was from the lower, and of course the largest part of the tree. I would guess it was 18 inches in diameter before I started working on it. You can't see any of the sap wood on the bowl as you can on the natural edge one. I can only speculate someone fertilized and watered this tree on a regular basis. I consider it very rare; I have never seen a red bud tree over 10 inches in diameter.

I hope I didn't minimize your work. They really are great.

I can't even imagine a redbud this far north more than 8" diameter.

Glenn, those are all beauties! I live in the middle of the woods in Missouri and have all kinds of redbuds along the drive and fence rows. Like you the biggest I ever saw was noting close to 18"!..Bill..

All of them are really nice with the nice, warm laquer finish! I really like the red bud bowl. Got some really great grain pattern there. Beauties!
