What am i doing wrong? I have just started turning pens. I have used up my 5 slim style pens now I would like to try the European Style but it looks like my mandrel is to short, has any one else had this problem? It is 6 1/4 inches from root to tip. The mandrel was in a beginners kit from craft supplies USA and the bushings are from Woodcraft?
Any Ideas??

Isn't it adjustable? Most of the "Short" ones can be extended by losening a nut.
If not, you will need the "inexpensive" version (about $10.00) at Woodcraft and elxewhere.

Tim,
I bought one from Lee Valley. It was about a 3/4" longer than the one I got at Woodcraft. It's ideal for the europeans.

I could not wait for a new mandrel, so to the garage I went and cut 3/16 of the longer bushing. Worked perfect, Thanks

If there's a will, there's a cheap way. Nice job!

I bought the adjustable one. Sure does make it nice when doing single blank Seirra's or longer Euro's.
