I've got an ancient craftsman 12" bandsaw that's still solid with a good motor. Can someone direct me to any threads on the forum for tuning up such a saw....places to buy new tires, how to adjust the wheels, etc. I don't want to spend more than a 100 bucks on it so that it will serve my limited bandsaw needs for the time being.

Thanks for any suggestions or links to past threads that deal with finding parts for old craftsman bandsaws.

Depending on exactly how ancient your BS those may or may not be the proper tires. Craftman has been around a looong time and have been made by a variety of different manufacturers over the years. If you're talking really old then check out owwm.org. You'll find the old machine experts there with the hands on knowledge to steer you down the right path.

Thanks Mike. I'll check those folks out. My band saw is from the mid 60s. I need to bring it out of storage and check out the model number, etc. I wonder if I can get new wheels and bearings for it, too. Do you know?

Thanks again,

Woodworking Online, has a great podcast on bandsaws.

While I'm not sure who made the saw off the top of my head, bearings and new tires shouldn't be a problem. Unless you get into the really old stuff, most bearings are standard sizes. Check here for some bandsaw restoration info.
