Electric motor hp question.

Anybody know how a 40 year old 1 1/2 hp electric motor compares to a 1 1/2 hp motor of today. I'm sure the hp ratings have changed but I don't know how they compare. Ray

My best info is: Compare the amperage ratings. If they are the same the h.p. will be too. The biggest change in motor design is in the insulation used on windings. As it improved motors could be made smaller. I do think the older, larger designs were able to take overloads better as the size permitted better heat disapation. Please take these remarks as tentative, that is. an answer from someone that doesn't know what he's ralking about.
