Hi there. I'm tired of lapping/sharpening by hand, and I'm looking at both the Veritas and Jet systems. I've read a lot of posts here (great!) on the virtues of both, but before I spend my tax refund, I was curious to know which system is best for lapping? Thanks!

Most of the reviews say the Veritas is the superior system. But for the money - look at the Worksharp. Same idea - half the price.

The work sharp looks pretty good, but I can't decide between the 3000 and the 2000.

I haven't used the Veritas, but looked at the pictures. It looks to be top use only with tool rest, all of which is included in the WorkSharp. But the beauty of the WorkSharp is the speed and simplicity and repeatability of the chisel port function on the WorkSharp. I just got my WorkSharp 3000 yesterday (amazon free shipping $159), and did a set of chisels very quickly, and an order of sharpness better than I had done before. I have had the Jet sharpener for a few months, like it a lot, but you mess with water, But you can do wider longer blades, and I am not certain how to camber plane blades on the WorkSharp. With it on the market I see no reason to buy to Veritas. But others with more experience may shed otehr light. Ray Knight

Thank you. My only reservation about Worksharp is that my jointer plan has a 2 1/2" blade. Can you flatten plane beds on the Worksharp?

Since you are looking at the Veritas Mark II then you might consider looking at the Lap-Sharp.

It does an excellent job of lapping blades.
