Just got my first copy of the AAW magazine. I'm interested in making the round picture frame from the article that starts on page 48. The project calls for a scoll chuck.

Now I'm really new to turning, so lets assume I know nothing about scroll chucks and could someone please give me a primer, or "sroll chucks for dummies" lesson please. I have figured out that I need to buy for the specific threads on my lathe and that for this particular project I also need to buy a flat jaw attachment for the scroll chuck.

But I don't know how many sizes they come in, what size I need, or what seperates a quality chuck from a cheap chuck.

Help!

Stu

Oneway, Nova, Vicmarc, Axminster (sp?) all make quality chucks. Depends on your budget and the size of your lathe.. Basically a scroll chuck has 4 jaws that move concentrically to tighten around an objects that is going to be turned... Other can probable give you even better info.
