I have a Craftsman/King Seeley model 103.23070 lathe that need a new face plate. I have the old one but the threads are stripped out. Anyone know where I might find a replacement or what the thread size is and maybe I can get a machine shop to repair this one.

David - I did a quick search for the spindle size for your lathe and didn't have any luck. I have an old Craftsman mono-tube lathe and it's spindle size is 3/4" x 16 tpi. Check yours - could be the same. If it is - you can check with the major woodworking supply stores for a replacement faceplace.

Or make some of your own: buy a few nuts for the correct thread, glue each with epoxy into a recess ona ny choice of maple (or hard wood), turn and flatten face.
Voila! A faceplate for a buck. You can have several and leave the projects attached until completion.

I haven't used a regular faceplate since I got a Nova faceplate ring which fits the #2 Nova jaws on my chuck. No possiblilty of cross threading and a lot easier to handle on blanks weighing more than 10lbs.

something to consider.
