Dyed & Textured Ash Bowl 4.5" x 1.375"
Done with Sorby texturing tool and some red trans-tint. I think I'm going to be looking into an airbrush to do some of the multi-colored stuff scott showed in the dye thread.

Spalted Maple HF 9.5" x 3.5"
Has a little curl in it as well. had to use Minwax wood hardener on it to get it to cut cleanly.

A lot of nice pieces there Bob!

The cored bowl set looks really good. Love the color! The colored/textured bowl works - I like the way you have the texturing all in the same direction - gives the bowl some movement.

The oak vase is really pretty. Nice size and form.

Really like the hollow form - the shape, curl and all the spalt markings! Very nice!

Keep them coming!

Bob, the spalted maple hollowform is my favorite. Looks as if you caught the spalting just right for turning. Think about making your writing on the bottom of your bowls smaller.

They're all great! I really like the HF. Spalted wood is awsome, and you caught alot of it in that form. Awsome!

Everything is nice, but I especially like the maple hollow form. Very nice, and obviously DEFINITELY worth your work to harden the wood!

I'm a new turner, and I don't know about wood hardener; I've used some epoxy products before on small scale for hardening soft spots, but I don't know about this; Sounds like something I'd like to know about, however. Where do I find information on how-to????

thanks for all the kind words guys. The spalted maple was a lucky find. Neighbor up the street and a huge section pushed to the street marked "free". Proably 25 inches in diamter by 25 high, and it was near the bottom of the tree and had grown twisted. I've got a couple blanks like this plus some platter slabs and some slabs slicing into veneer.

...don't know about wood hardener;

Nate, just brush it on and let it dry. I've heard that you can make your own by disolving plexiglass in acetone, but I've never tried nor verified that.

Really nice stuff there Bob! The spalted maple is striking, but I really like the oak vase; the form and look are spot on!
