Oak blister bowl

Hi, this is my second post here. This is a nature edge bowl I turned out of a blister off the side of a oak tree. It is 12" in dia. and around 4.5" deep.

No joke, that is really beautiful work, and the finish is perfect.
Question: is a blister cause by a previous branch location or just a growth anomaly that can be found anywhere on the tree.

Thanks Everyone, turning this piece was not all that hard, but sanding it took some work. Natural edges always take me more time to sand up around the bark. I cut this one off last winter and put it in a plastic bag to hold it until I turned it. I forgot it in the bag for 7 or 8 months. It had orange mold growing out of it when I did take it out of the bag. This is what spalted the sapwood. The tree is still standing with several more blisters on it. I will be back for more.

What I call a blister is a large bump on the side of a tree. Oaks get them around here more than other trees. I teach high school shop and one of my students brought me one last year that weighed more than 350 lbs off a birch tree. I have lost count of how many bowls I turned from it. The large birch burl or blister is one reason it took me so long to get around to the oak bowl. I love working with birch. Here are a couple pictures of birch burls or blisters my students brought in last year. The second picture is of the smallest birch blister.
