Now, this ain't gonna spark any great emotion like Shaver's bench-de-force, but I'm feeling good about it:

All the base M&Ts are fitted, though, after dry assembling it, there are one or two that need just a bit more tweaking. Legs are all 4x4 ash, planed down to 3-3/4" square. All the rail stock ended up 1-7/8" thick. This puppy's heavy. Still have to lay out and mortise for the through-tenoned stretchers in the top and bottom rails, but I wanted to see if it's starting to look like a bench. Threw the top on, and it's starting to look alright. Top's still needing the maple skirt and a vise, but that's gonna be another week or two. Cabinet's a long way off...

Thanks for looking.

Scott,
Nice looking work bench. You said you were "feeling good about it" . That's what it's all about. Keep up the good work and thanks for posting the picture.

Great looking bench. A good bench is something I really need and every time I finish a project I say, "A bench is going to be my next project." That was about ten projects ago. For some reason I'm having a hard time getting fired up about building a work bench. Oh well, maybe some day.
Thanks for posting,
Jim

Hey Scott,

Nice to know that someone out there is working on the same project I'm working on. Very nice work so far, mine should turn out so well!

Nice bench. I build one of these several years ago. Very strong. One of these days I am going to install a cupboard underneath. That will make it even sturdier.

Nice bench Scott. The ash will last forever! I’m looking forward to seeing it completed.

ice-Nay ench-Bay.

Tomorrow, before you put the kids down, give 'em both a couple teaspoons of cough syrup - you know - the stuff that makes them SLEEEEEPY, and you will make REALLY good progress on it. It's not illegal you know...

I think I'll go back and check out that shop tour of yours - it's lookin a little cluttered...

Good job!

Todd.

Appreciate everyone's encouragement. Have borrowed (read: blatantly stolen) more'n a few ideas from everyone elses' benches, and I'm glad this one is coming together alright.

Twenty below? You guys are on the metric system, right? That's only four below, Farenheit - you can work in that, cantcha? ;)

Thanks again.

Speaking of cough syrup -

Father charged in children's cough syrup deaths surrenders to police

Aurora, Colorado-AP -- An Aurora, Colorado man accused of causing the deaths of his two young children with a lethal dose of cough syrup is in custody.

Robert Henderson turned himself in to police early today, about two hours after telling a T-V station (K-U-S-A) he -- quote -- "didn't exactly do anything wrong."Police say Henderson gave his five-year-old son and four-year-old daughter cherry-flavored cough syrup when they complained of being sick in August.Their mother later found them dead in their beds a few hours later. The medicine's label warns parents not to give it to kids under 12.Coroners say the children's deaths were caused by the combination of the four drugs in the syrup.Henderson is accused of child abuse resulting in death and assault. He could face up to 60 years in prison if convicted.
