I had a customer whose house flooded. She thought it was from freezing pipes, but it turned out it was a failed solder joint in a shower body. Not that it made a big difference in the damage caused.
Any product experience out there with the automatic shutoffs you install at the house main?

FloLogic Automatic Water Shutoff System is just a little over $1000.

WaterCop by DynaQuip Systems sells an automated shutoff system around $500.

Kirk's Natural WaterCop around $500.

Sorry I don't have experience with any of these. Doesn't look like a cheap fix though.

Water damage to the house was around $32,000. Two bathrooms, 35 sheets of fire code drywall , around 1100 sq ft of 7" plank ash flooring, etc....
While the units aren't cheap, they are cost effective.

WOW!

In that regard the system is worth getting. Even the $1000 is cheap compared to the savings if it will prevent that kind of damage.

How the heck do these things work? I assume they monitor water flow or something, but what if you are running your outside spigot at full flow for an extended period or something similiar?
