Isn't this ironic? Wood Prices

I have the price list from Willard Bros. in Trenton, N.J. and am looking for some alder to add doors to an alder entertainment center. This is on the east coast, alder is a west coast wood and Willard Bros. are not known for their bargains. Alder was/is known as "poor man's cherry" Willard Bros. wants $7.10/ bd. ft. for 4/4 alder. 4/4 Cherry? $7.10.:eek::). Anybody know of N.J.- SE. PA. source for alder beside Willard Bros?

Mail order might be the way to go. Steve Wall Lumber, www.walllumber.com (http://www.walllumber.com), 1-800-633-4062, $3.10/bd ft for under bd ft, you pay shipping. They have a UPS Special (free delivery), 20 bd ft rwrl, S2S or rough, $88 4/4. On UPS thing, 15% extra if you request particular lengths and widths (plus $13.20 or $101.20 total, $5.06 bd ft, cheaper and you save on gas and time).

I just had a visitor that has worked for Weyerhauser his adult life and they are sawing alder at his mill 15,000 bf per shift and cant get enough.

Now this, the defective boards with good figure are sold out in advance at a higher price than clear.

Talk to Mark up at Wherung's Specialty Woods in Ottsville. See if he can source for you at a more reasonable price. If so, and despite how nice a candy store Hearne is, the commute to Ottsville is much better than Oxford... ;)

ABSOLUTELY! I never have any problem heading to the "candy store" if I can find the time to do it. But I have learned that taking the trailer is not an option. LOL It's no fun looking at all that candy if you don't bring some home to "eat" at your leisure... :D
