Getting ready to tune up my 14" Powermatic bandsaw w/riser, I got a cobra coil for christmas and am wondering if its worth installing. The saw is about 4yrs old and has seen occasional heavy use. It has the quick tension release which I occasionally remember to use! I'm using Timberwolf blades from Suffolk Machine presently.

Is it worth my time to change the spring (saw is used for 6" veneer resaw and 6/4 curved work mostly)? If so anything to look out for during instalation?

In my opinion, yes it's worth replacing.

I know about Hooks laws, and Young's Modulus, and that a spring is a spring is a spring, but the OEM spring on my Jet was bottomed out with about 9000psi of pressure on the blade. The Cobra Coil moved it up to about 13,000 psi. For my Jet it was an improvement.

Of course there is always the "if it works don't mess with it" school of thought. ;)
