This is my second bowl (the first was actually a red box elder vase). It's 5" wide x 2.5" at the tallest point x 3/16" thick. I wanted it a little thinner but I was afraid I'd break it. Cracks were mostly filled with CA and sawdust. Sanded to 12,000, finished with tung oil and then buffed. This small bowl was a challenge, red mallee is kind of a bugger. Even though I paid close attention to the placement of my hands, I still clipped my thumb a little on the natural edge while I was sanding it. Red mallee is beautiful stuff and I almost hated to cut into it.

WOW Donna. That's exquisite! Your trying to give Mike F. a run for his money and doing a fine job. That's an excellent shape, finish and choice of wood. A++

I like the way that turned out. The finish is top notch also.

Well, Donna, I dont know what the blank looked like before, but you certainly improved the looks of it when you 'cut into it' beautifully.Bet they gave you the blank, huh? Max

Wow, that's a pretty one! You got an excellent finish on it and it's some beautiful wood. I like the thickness myself, it shows more of the rugged natural edge of the mallee.

Great job. If you didn't say it was only your second bowl, nobody would have known! Heck, I've done about 40, and havn't attempted a NE yet. The finish is also exquisite!

Uhh??? My second bowl looked like I hollowed it with a wood rasp, and that was after the finish.

Very nice work.
