This is a pictorial essay on how to cut pink sycamore slabs to make platters. The first picture shows my helper, James, marking for the cut of the first platter after he has removed the outsides of the log. The second picture shows the 32 inch Husky at work. Picture #3 gives a close up view of the log after one blank has been removed. #4 shows James holding a piece of the log ready to be rounded on the bandsaw. It is 20 inches in diameter and 4 inches thick. It will be rough turned thick because sycamore is known to warp a great amount, and then coated in Anchorseal to dry for about a year. I hope this has been helpful to someone.

Pics are probably too big. Try down sizing them.:D

No Bill, something else was wrong. I think there was a lot of activity on the Creek. I was able to post them early this morning with no problem, but thanks for the suggestion.

I am amazed - I didn't know they grew Huskies that big! Beautiful wood! Looking forward to seeing it once turned! Thanks for sharing!
