Mike,

That's very well done. I like how the thick rim frames the bowl. It's very dramatic.

Beautiful work once again Mike! Love the wood and the way the rim is covered with curl! Very nice!

Very nice. The curl shows great on the rim, and I really like the bead- perfect placement on that. Another great example from you.

I like it too Mike, the wide rim is a real eye catcher.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. The curl on the rim is the major reason I left the rim so wide. I just couldn't stand to turn that curl into shavings.

I have been playing with wide rims on a couple of my recent pieces, but this one is pretty extreme. I bring the wall thickness down quite a bit on the rest of the piece so the overall weight is not to much. I am not 100% sure I like it yet, since it gives the piece a bit of an unbalanced feeling (top heavy) when handling it. I guess it is a matter of picking your poison on thick rims, overall weight or unbalance.

Normally I'd like it thinner but that figure in the rim looks fantastic. I wouldn't touch a thing. Great job.

Mike,
Where do you keep digging up those beauties? Did you find that sumac locally?

Thanks Dick. Their were several Africa Sumac's that were knocked down for construction a couple miles from my house last May.
Jason Clark and Kevin McPeek both were with me and have posted turnings from this score. Unfortunately I am down to two or three rough outs left from it, but they are all big ones

I like your work a lot. Nice shape and the bead does complement the piece.
Congrats
