I am in need of a "mushroom" cap to replace the pointed one on my DI plunger. I am trying to set jointer knives and the pointed one is a bear to deal with. I have tried several machine shops and all they have are the ones with female ends I need male to screw into the plunger. I tried doing it without the cap just using the end of the plungers but this has turned out to not be an option.

Try www dot littlemachineshop dot com. You can get a hole indicator set for a reasonable price. When you go to the site click on the “ On Sale “ on the left. Also do a search for " dial indicator " for just a piont set.

Jude, thanks for that link - I searched on "point set" and came up with just the point set for $3.95 - but UPS was $9 to my location - I changed to parcel post and it went to $3.36. Just in case someone thinks they MUST pay 3 times as much for UPS as for the item... Steve

Just take the cone tip off and use the end of the shaft.

Jude, Matthew, take a few minutes and read the TOS (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/terms.php). The websites “www dot littlemachineshop dot com” and “www dot mcmaster dot com” can be linked to or spelled out in normal fashion as long as you receive no direct benefit in doing so. e.g. http://www.mcmaster.com or http://littlemachineshop.com
Links to your own website or to auction sites like eBay are not allowed.

Granger has them also, but the one I got comes in a set and they from Mitoyo (sp?) and they are a bit spendy, but the finish on them was a very nice chrome, unlike the cheap one I got from Northern tool

Steve,

Thanks for the catch on the shipping options. At $9 to me as well, I bailed on it. After reading your post, I went back and snapped one up for $8.81 total.

Yeah, not that it's logical but I will spend hundreds on some tools but balk at paying 3 times the cost of an inexpensive item for shipping  Steve
