View Full Version : Window Bench/seat plans

Anybody have good pix of a window bench or a window seat? I need to make one. Looking for ideas. I'm undecided about trunk-type storage or an open shelf underneath.

Space is about 84". I have about 22" depth. Built in is ideal, but not mandatory.

Any ideas appreciated.

What a fortuitous post! My MIL just asked me to build a window seat in her bay window so I too am anxious to see some designs. My design has to include extension on a floor register to direct the air flow out the front side of the seat. I would like for it to be a vent that does not look like a vent.

This may give you some ideas. The unit is about 12 feet long, 2 feet deep and 7 feet tall. It is made out of solid and ply red oak.

That looks similar to a design I saw in Workbench a couple years back.

What's the material on the seat? Carpet? Innovative idea...

I did a builtin one based on an article in Fine Homebuilding a few years ago. The article may be in their archives. Very easy to do and works well.

And yes it's fine so any Luthers need not chime in about a carpenter fixing it . The kid has out grown it, it's a small cello , and it's now being played by another kid who's renting it from one of my co workers , the guy who knocked it over and broke it in the first place . They say it sounds good still.

Window seats are fun to build , a small space with a lot of bonus potential . Soft close lid hardware is nice , shelfs , draws etc all possible .
