Sorry I don't hace a pic but I saw a jewelery box at an amish furniture store that I plan on making some day soon. It was fashioned as a full length mirror. The box was about 4" deep and perhaps 4' tall The front door was a mirror and opened to a pretty nice set-up for jewelery. Row of shaker pegs across the top for necklaces. First shelf was set-up for rings. Rest was flocked drawers. The box was mounted between turned posts and had swivel pins. The whole thing was made from 1/4 sawn oak and was beautiful.

I've made two...one was a simple heart shaped box that was about 2" deep. Made it out of redheart, and inside I hid a music box in a smaller heart shaped box made of holly. I have pictures, but they aren't digital. Cut out the box's heart shape on a bandsaw.

I did the "love birds" one. Have to say that although time consuming, the scroll saw work was not that difficult and turned out great.

BTW, if this is for your sweety for Valentines Day, might be time to stop thinking and start doing! ;)

FWIW, the carousel style hangers for necklaces as shown above are not to everyones liking. LOML hated the ones I put in the one I made for her (sorry but no pic..). She was always complaining about them getting tangled up if there was more than 3-4 dnagly thingies on it at a time.

Oh, I made another..well several others, but were more "keepsake" boxes for the LOML, her two daughters, and her mother, for Mother's Day. It was a group of nested heart shape boxes made out of a single block of cherry. Sorry no pics, but I simply cut the block into a heart shape and then did these steps to get four.

1) Cut off a 1/2" slice of the block to make the first top
2) and then cut out the 1/2" walls of the remaining block to make the first box. This requires you to cut through the block and glue it back later.
3) Glue in a scribed piece of BB ply covered with foam and fabric for the bottom.
4) Glue a smaller heart shape piece of cherry to the bottom of the top to create a rabbet so the top slips on the box.
3) Repeat steps 1 thru 4 three times on the remaining smaller blocks.

I then carved each's initial into the top. All four boxes nested in each other...and had grain match. I gave them to her mom, and the predicted result was handing the box (and present) off to her daughter, then to her daughter's daughter...

The whole idea of all the boxes being different, but having a common source and lineage, sure came through.

Here are 2 pics of one of three jewelry boxes I made for Christmas a few years back. One each for the LOML, daughter and daughter-in-law. My DIL lived in our house at the time and I was trying to surprise all three of them, so... I could only have one box visible when I was working on them, and that was 'always' the one for my daughter. I would ask my wife what she thought my daughter would like (stain) and whatever answer she gave me, that is what she got. Likewise I would ask my DIL the same questions and she got whatever her response was.

So, three ladies, three boxes, all made of cherry, one with a natural finish for my wife (my favorite), one stained dark for my daughter and one with a lighter stain for my DIL. The plan was basically a combination of two plans I saw that both ladies thought my daughter would like. All three were surprised and happy (much to my delight).

here's 2 boxes i've completed - featuring marquetry. the one with the dragon fly uses abalone for the wings and red elm for the flowers - the box is spalted maple. the white box is done out of holly with an ebony baorder and a variety of woods for the butterfly.
