This is an idea I've had in my head for a while and finially tried it. It's walnut and maple, 7" x 3" plus the finial/lid. It was tricky to hollow with the flat bottom.

Curt that is a different design. I like it. It does look like the bottom would be fun. Beautiful piece and well done.

Cool Curt. I like the bottom...and the top...and the finial... I guess thats all of it. How exactly did you hollow it, and is the inside bottom corner rounded or square?

Actually I turned the bottom first. I held the wood with the big screw that comes with a talon chuck and turned the bottom with a 3/8" recess along with the detail and the rimmed foot. Then reversed it and held it with the jaws expanded in the recess and turned the top, hollowed it, and turned the lid in place.

Brian, the inside corner is curved.

Interesting design Curt! Sure looks like it would be fun hollowing out the inside corner! Nice colors! You have a way of coming up with unique designs - and they all work! Thanks for posting!
