Beal buffing system.

My lathe came with a Beal buffing system.

Since I have mostly been working with Walnut I had not used the white diamond buff. The other day I was going to use it for the first time. I notice some black on it but I thought maybe that was how it was supposed to be. When I touched it to the cherry I was using the black transferred to the cherry. I changed back to the tripoli buff and most of the black came off but I am concerned.

I suspect that the previous owner used it on metal, maybe aluminum. Do you think that it could be saved? Should I just buy a new white diamond buff?

Any ideas?

Tony sometimes you can take some 80 grit sandpaper and clean the buff. Just hold it to the wheel while it is running. I did that with one I got with some black or whatever one it. A old turner friend told me and it seemed to work ok.

Bernie steered you right. If you ever get a new buff, using 80 grit sandpaper will remove the threads that seem to come out forever too.

I believe you can wash the buffing wheel , check with Bealls CS but I think you can on the "Delicates" cycle. cold water wash I would think.


I buffed some aluminum pieces for my old Delta 1460 lathe man they sparkle like Chrome now but turned my wheel Black, I thought I read you could wash them out gently. But CHECK to be SURE.

I have all the Beall buff systems so I have just used the singles set up as opposed to the 3on system for now as I will have more metal to buff with the restore using my 3 on system.

I Have Washed My Buffing Weels ,worked Great. They Are Not Beals. There Sanoma Buffing Wheel`s. Happy Buffing.

Steel turns the buff and compound black. To clean the wheel either buy a buff cleaning tool from ojne of several venders, or use a stiff wire brush. If you use either, stand out of the line of fire while cleaning. :):)
