Last trip I made up to the little lumber mill I get a lot of my Oklahoma native woods from, I purchased a couple of large (thick) pieces of pecan and the Red Hawthorn burl... then the guys started giving me a bunch of "cut-offs"... stuff that was in thier burn bin... this is a walnut bowl (6") from one of those throw-aways... man I love free wood :D

edit - critiques wanted and welcome... finish is sanded to 800 and Beall buffed.

I like it. Very simple form but pleasing to the eye. I like how the top edge slopes gently into the bowl. Gotta love the free stuff.

Bill that is a beauty. I really like the simple form. I like turning walnut. That is some nice wood.

Very sharp. I like that you let the wood do all the talking. You just showed it how to, "speak up."

Thank you everyone for the feedback... not having an "artistic" bone in my body, I sometimes have to wonder if what looks good to me looks ok to other folks (I've made some things that get really strange looks from the wife and daughters ;) ). I do like trying to find a way to bring out the grain in the best light to show off the wood. I borrowed this simple form from Bill Grumbine's "Turned Bowls Made Easy" DVD... he had some good points in the design chapter...

Very nice. I have to agree that the slanted in rim looks good.

Looks great. That walnut has some real nice grain. I agree with the above about the slanted rim. It adds a certain "flair". Great finish aswell.

This example shows how clasic simplicity was used to show real beauty. You are to be congratulated in your ability, and wood selection.
