I spent some time searching for this one, but to no avail. Has anyone built cabinets or an island with decorative furniture legs? I was going to bookend the island with halved faux legs in the front and wrapped legs on the back. If I want the appearance of 3 1/2" bases and tops stepped to a 2" stem, do I use 2x2's for the full height and use moldings to build out the bases? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You can buy turned legs intended for making kitchen cabinets. You can buy them as full legs, or half legs (with a flat back). Here are some sources to check out.

www.cshardware sells them from the printed catalog, but I can't find them on the web site.
http://www.vandykes.com/subcategory/232/ look for "half columns"

Hi Dale, I buy all my legs from Osborne and Kimrick. It is cheaper to buy the full legs and split them down the middle to make 2 half legs. Mount them to a sled and run them through the band saw or table saw. You can also use the sled to run them trough a planer or sander to clean up the cut.

If I understand you correctly you want a wrap around leg. Its easy to do on a table saw and sled ( the sled just gives you a straight edge to run against the fence) . I always cut out half the leg for a wraparound. Ex. if the leg is 4" sq, I will cut out a 2"x2" section the full lenght of the leg, this large ( Rabbit) will then fit in the corner of the cab. and give the wrap around look. Hope this helps

In the printed catalog, Matthew Burak (www.tablelegs.com) says that they routinely cut turned legs in half or quarters or three-quarters, and they have a price schedule for the operation. I don't see that service on the web site, but I didn't look very hard.

Look at Osborne Wood Products or Adams for leg styles. Good ideas there.

Another vote for Osborne - they are fantastic people to deal with and have a nice selection.
